This is a first for me, but I am so excited to announce that I’m offering writers across the globe the chance to pick my brain about my experience as an editor in trade, and, in particular, indie publishing. See the official announcement and details below.

In this certified course (offered in collaboration with Beauty & the Beast Publishing), freelance editor Katelynn Watkins will share industry dos and don’ts, common tools and timeframes, and what to expect during the editorial process for manuscripts bound for trade publishing―all gleaned from almost a decade’s worth of professional and educational experience.

Offering your manuscript up to an editor so they can nitpick and fine-tune to their heart’s content can be daunting, especially for new authors. But after participating in this guided preview of the proofreading and editing (yes, there is a difference!) leg of the trade publishing journey, writers can do so with confidence.

For completing the course, and if they act within the following week, all registrants can send Katelynn their first ten formatted manuscript pages for edits at the discounted rate of $15.

Course date: December 2, 2023, noon (EST)

Registration deadline: December 1, 2023, noon (EST)

Course duration: One hour

Cost: $150 per registrant

Writer, editor, reader, steering wheel singer, volunteer Dressember advocate, animal lover: I wear many hats from my residence in Wilmington, North Carolina, which I share with two cats and my live-in chef (aka my significant other). My professional background is just as varied. I’ve been a content marketer, a features writer, a content manager for academic journals published by Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a trade publishing book editor and production coordinator, and I contribute to forums like Beauty & the Beast Publishing’s Writer’s Block. When I have a second to spare, I also dabble in writing my own urban fantasy fiction series.

If you’re the social type, I’m on both X and Instagram (and Threads) as @thekwatkins. I’m also on LinkedIn, Goodreads, BookSirens and YouTube. Feel free to reach out―us word nerds ought to stick together.
