There’s something about wrapping up a story that just soothes a writer’s soul―until it’s time for the editing process. But the beauty of having an impartial editor is that I can make those tough calls that you’re a tad too close to, like character development, subplot construction, and whether your whodunit leaves readers on the edges of their seats, or frequently checking the number of pages left until the inevitable reveal.
- Copyedit: a quick read-through that covers typos and minor suggestions for content improvement on manuscripts that are all but ready to publish. $0.03/word
- Line edit: line-by-line grammar, punctuation, and syntax. I’ll also offer some feedback in terms of tone, dialogue, world-building, pacing, character development, and more as is applicable and at my discretion. $0.05/word
- Developmental edit: the line edit plus a more in-depth analysis of plot progression, narrative flow and structure, and more. Note that this is not for the faint of heart, and will likely yield a murdered darling or two. $0.08/word
- Optional add-on services:
- Word document preformatting: preparing manuscripts for publication by adding page breaks for chapters as needed, standardizing chapter headers, line spacing, fonts, and indentation according to trade publishing industry standards, as well as adding placeholders for front and back matter (title page, copyright verbiage, dedications as applicable, necessary blank pages, teasers for works to follow, author bio, call for reviews, etc.) according to general typesetting procedure. To be completed after the manuscript has been edited and then reviewed by you to incorporate/turn down all changes and comments made. $25/hour
- Back cover copy: a summary of the narrative that you can place on the back cover of the published book (or use as a description for the e-book version) and implement in your marketing efforts (up to two rounds of revision). $20
- Author bio: a short bio you can include in your book’s back matter or on the back cover based on your answers to a list of questions I’ll email you separately from the manuscript (up to two rounds of revision). $20
